The Program Director is responsible for the overall development, management, and outcomes achievement of the organization’s programs.  Assesses needs and ensures that program objectives are met. The Program Director coordinates activities of program committees and other groups to plan procedures.  The Program Director plays a key role in raising the profile of Youth Action Project with youths and young adults in the community by building relationships with individuals and organizations, while encouraging their involvement in Youth Action Project. The Program Director understands and assists in meeting budget and services goals, understands the mission and objectives of Youth Action Project, and works within the limits of the organization’s resources and performs all duties in compliance with the organization’s standards. 

NOTE: Our organization is currently working remotely, which includes this position.  Please note that this position is currently required to conduct in-person site visits of our program locations and may be required to work in person on a full-time or hybrid basis if/when the agency updates its response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees three program manager positions. 
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains for their assigned departments. 
  • Oversees the schedules and responsibilities of staff assigned.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and sets KPI’s for departments.   

Core Essential Job Functions:

  • Oversees the organization-wide efforts to engage community youths and young adults with service opportunities and leadership development.  
  • Reviews, updates, and oversees program curriculum and program delivery, ensuring high quality, engaging programming designed to develop understanding of Youth Action Project’s programs and services, non-profit operations, community needs and community building. Directing orientation programs and approving training material to ensure that all materials are kept current.
  • Planning and implementing an evaluation process for Youth Action Project’s programs. 
  • Creating, measuring, and reporting (short-term, intermediate term and long-term) on the outcomes-based evaluations of the programs.  With a focus on the impact, benefits and changes to youths and young adults as a result of Youth Action Project’s programs/efforts, during and/or after their participation in Youth Action Project’s programs. 
  • Assists in preparing program specific budgets. 
  • Conducts outreach to individuals, business, and organizations to encourage involvement with Youth Action Project. 
  • Support fundraising events by providing program content for appeal messaging, writing mini-grants for program-requested items, not included or allowed in organizations grant process. 
  • Monitoring and approving expenditures, ensuring programs operate within their approved budget, monitoring budget versus actuals for programs, ensuring funds are being spent according to organizational plans.  Collaborates and/or may assist in writing grant proposals and managing large scale donations. 
  • Manages assigned departmental functions as directed by Executive Director and Board. 
  • Manages portfolio of programs and occasional special programs/projects. Directs program teams in executing programmatic goals and initiatives. 
  • Serves as a proxy for the Executive Director when they are unable to attend meetings with partners and community leaders.
  • Performs other duties as required.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Program Planning and Management.
  • Creating, implementing, and managing Volunteer Programs.
  • Non-profit Budgeting and Accounting knowledge with respect to preparing Grants and Donations is a plus.
  • Clear understanding of creating and implementing evaluations for the programs. (Goal-based, processed-based and outcomes-based).  With a focus on outcomes-based in short-term, intermediate-term and long-term metrics. 
  • Strong knowledge in analyzing and interpreting information. 
  • Proficient understanding of the principles of program development and evaluation. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of the managed sub-function.
  • Solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and Sheets,  or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public or business administration, public health, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in nonprofit management,  a plus, but not required. 
  • Minimum 5-years experience in youth and young adult programs. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.  
  • Travel within the community, which may include prolonged periods of walking and/or standing.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Must be able to travel.
